June 2006

Welcome to the home page of Jesse Sublett, author, musician, producer & Austin personality.

Jesse’s most recent book, NEVER THE SAME AGAIN: A ROCK N’ ROLL GOTHIC, was recognized with a Best of Austin award for 2004. Austin’s favorite expatriate author, Marion Winik, made sure the book appeared in The Los Angeles Times’ list of favorite books of 2005.

Jesse is also the author of the acclaimed Martin Fender mystery novels, which are set in the Austin music scene. Jesse still gets letters and emails from fans all over the world, thanking him for either introducing them to the Austin experience for the first time, or making expatriates feel more homesick than ever.

The same goes for Jesse’s original band, THE SKUNKS. Remarkably, even though Jesse technically disbanded the group in 1983, they were listed as one of the top Austin punk bands of 2005. Pretty impressive for a band that only plays one or two reunion shows a year! For more information on THE SKUNKS, check the music page or stay current with Austin’s first legendary punk band at myspace.com/theskunkstx, where you can also hear and download an eclectic collection of live and studio mp3s of the band.

To order SIGNED copies of Jesse’s books, send us an email [jesse@jessesublett.com] and tell us how many you want, and how you want them signed.

Jesse is currently working on several new book projects as well as continuing to write and produce projects in other media. He has had a hand in dozens of programs for The History Channel, including THE KILLER STORM, the true story of the 1991 Nor’easter chronicled in Sebastian Junger’s The Perfect Storm. At the other end of the spectrum, Jesse is a producer on the reality courtroom show EYE FOR AN EYE, which appears daily in syndication. Kato Kaelin is the host. Check for local listings.

Besides being one of the world-renowned Austin music scene’s seminal figures, Jesse is the author of the acclaimed Martin Fender mystery novels, which are set in the Austin music scene.

Summer 2005

Scroll down for information on discounted books for a good cause!

Thanks to everyone for their support for Never the Same Again over the past year. The audiobook is out. It is unabridged – 8 disks!! – and includes 4 of my songs, including 3 unreleased songs by my 1980s band, Secret Six, including one of my favorites, “My Love is Wild.” The audiobook also includes a long interview with me at the end.

By the way, last summer, we went to London to sign books at Murder One. We’ve added a couple of photos from the trip. We also went to Edinburgh to sample the scotch there and to hang out in the castle and to Paris to the Picasso museum and a few other places. It was swell!
The Skunks are working on a gig in the fall at the Continental Club in Austin (where else?), probably in October and quite possibly the weekend of October 20-21, 2005. Keep checking here or at www.continentalclub.com.

The Skunks played a benefit for Jon Dee’s youngest son, Willie, on June 24 at the Saxon. We had a blast and raised a lot of money to help cover medical expenses for Willie, who has a disorder called Legg Parthes. Things being how they are in this country right now, their insurance company went bankrupt and so the Graham family is without insurance.

Boaz/Tenspeed has made a special shipment of Never the Same Again available to me for sale at a discount price of $18. The proceeds will go to the Willie Graham Foundation. Order it here and I’ll sign
it however you want and ship it to you. Add $5 postage.

My current project is a non-fiction book about a gang of bank burglars and pimps in Austin in the 1960s. It’s a real swinging tale. I hope to be done with it by summer’s end and onto the next big thing.
Cheers,
Jesse

September 2004

It was a busy summer for me and the book promotion racket. There were rave reviews, hot gigs, hot gigs and exciting trips to LA, London and Paris with the family.
The biggest book news for the rest of the year is the Texas Book Festival, October 29-31, in Austin at the State Capitol grounds. I will be one of the featured authors this year, so look for me on the schedule and at all the gala events. For TBF news, go to www.texasbookfestival.org.
The audiobook version of "Never the Same Again" will be published by Timberwolf Press of Dallas and should be ready for release by the festival.
In June, I was featured on NPR's "Day to Day" program. with samples of Skunks music and short readings of the book. Listen for yourself by clicking here.

May 2004

Greetings,
My new book, NEVER THE SAME AGAIN: A ROCK 'N' ROLL GOTHIC, is part rock 'n' roll memoir, part true crime story.
In addition to the usual book promotion events, I'll be playing music more than usual, including some gigs with Raul's supergroup known as Class of '78. If you missed the Skunks reunion at Continental club on May 7, too bad, you missed a great show.
If you haven't heard of the book yet, the press release from Ten Speed is as good a place to start as any.
You can also find information here about my old band, the Skunks, my mystery novels, and historical documentaries I've done for television. Check back for updates and new features on the site.

Keep rockin',
Jesse
